With 32+ years in special education, literacy instruction, and school leadership, Lisa combines classroom experience, instructional expertise (Wilson and Orton-Gillingham), and district-level administration to help students, families, and schools navigate special education with collaboration, equity, and measurable results through CLEAR Path Consulting.
As the Past President of the Hendrick Hudson School Board and a former teacher in the district, it was my distinct honor to chair the committee that hired Lisa Shuchman as our Director of Special Education. From the outset, Lisa impressed us with her extensive knowledge, expertise, and unwavering commitment to students.
During her tenure, Lisa implemented innovative and effective programs that significantly enhanced student learning. She introduced Social and Emotional Intelligence techniques to support both academic success and personal growth, resulting in notable gains in students’ confidence, skills, and overall well-being.
Lisa is, first and foremost, an advocate for children. I had the privilege of observing her thoughtful interactions with both staff and students and was continually impressed by her empathy, professionalism, and leadership. She also provided exceptional guidance to parents, helping them navigate educational options with compassion and deep understanding.
Working with Lisa was both a privilege and a pleasure. Her integrity, empathy, and tireless advocacy make a lasting difference in the lives of students, families, and colleagues alike. I remain deeply grateful for her many contributions to our district and confident she will continue to inspire excellence wherever she goes.
Empower Young Minds with Engaging and Interactive Lessons
Lisa Schuchman began her career as an itinerant infant/toddler teacher for students who are visually impaired in the Rochester area, where she developed a deep commitment to ensuring every child had access to learning, regardless of their challenges. She later taught in a middle school self-contained classroom, supporting students with learning and developmental disabilities. Recognizing how foundational literacy is to lifelong success—“Without reading skills, a child or adult struggles even more”—Lisa became trained in both the Wilson and Orton- Gillingham reading systems and received her K-12 Reading Certification to help students become confident readers.
Driven by a desire to make a broader impact, Lisa pursued her administrative certification (K–12) and transitioned into leadership roles. She first served as an elementary principal (K–6) and later as a middle school principal—an experience she describes as one of the most rewarding of her career. Through collaboration, strong instructional leadership, and data- informed decisions, she and her team successfully transformed a “School in Need of Improvement” into a “School in Good Standing” within three years.
Her journey then led her to Westchester County, where she became a Director of Special Services, working alongside highly skilled educators and specialists. Currently preparing for retirement from her role as Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Lisa brings over 32 years of experience spanning special education, literacy, leadership, and advocacy.
Lisa founded CLEAR Path Consulting—which stands for Collaboration, Learning, Equity, Access, and Results—to continue her lifelong mission of supporting students, families, and schools through the often complex special education process.
